A PLACE AT THE LAKE, A PLACE IN THE MOUNTAINS.
Located in Polk County, recognized as one of the best rural counties in the US, between Lake Lure in the Hickory Nut Gorge and the horse crazy town of Tryon, is Lake Adger and its communities surrounding the lake.
What makes this Blue Ridge Mountain community different is that you can have acreage for horses here as well as deeded lake access. Lots vary in size from about an acre to 20 plus. Some are lakefront; others are mountain top,or rolling pasture. The community has 10 miles of equestrian trails. There’s a public marina with daily boat launch but many owners have their own deeded boat piers
The 400 + acre lake provides small horsepower boating, fishing, and swimming opportunities. Owned by Polk County, management of the lake and its 14 mile shoreline is a combined effort of the county, the NC Wildlife Resources Department, and the surrounding developments. Fishing is excellent and has produced a state champion. The advantage of restricting boating to small boats only is that the lake is quiet.
With most homes nestled into the woods on multi-acre home-sites, the feel of the community is definitely rural but town (Columbus/Tryon) is close by. Shopping, medical services, library, and a branch of the community college are all less than ten miles away. Interstate 26 is also nearby making both Asheville and Upstate SC locations a commute away.
You can choose from existing homes or tracts of land, lakefront or mountain view, to build on. Existing homes range from modest log homes to the multi-million dollar “Little Biltmore” estate. Residents are a mix of full-time and part-time and they enjoy organizing community social activities.
There are some spectacular mountain views.
